Centre for Nature Conservation and Development Cameroon (CNCD)

CNCD is a Non-Governmental Organization created with the desire for proper conservation of the environment and improves on the livelihood of the population living and depending on it.

CNCD activities are geared towards increasing awareness of indigenous population on the one hand and the government on the other, on the dangers of man’s uncontrolled activities on the environment. CNCD thus tries to seek for proper conservation strategies that will improve the environment. CNCD work is concentrated on the following programs:

Research and policy analysis:

CNCD is engaged in research findings as this enables it to gain a deeper and wider understanding of the environmental policies put forth by the government and the problems faced by the people in conservation of nature.

Information and community empowerment:

Based on research findings, information is put together and presented to the various communities to empower them to use that which they need and have to get in order to secure a sustainable development for the present and future generations.

Capacity building:

CNCD facilitates the upgrading of the administrative and management capacities of not only Common Initiative Groups and Civil Society Organizations but also the capacities of individuals or groups of individuals, such as valuable unemployed youths as well as old retired men and women, who can still be very active. This is achieved through training workshops that land the people to discovering other avenues of active life than those they have previously pursued as professional/academic careers.

Why Focus On Environment And development?

Sustainability of forest use, conservation of nature and management contributes to poverty alleviation and development. The biggest challenge facing the work today is to conserve our beautiful nature and to use all nature provides to sustain development. CNCD is therefore present to put in place appropriate models to foster communities to be able to harness and channel their scarce productive resources to sectors and activities capable of promoting efficient production and equitable distribution of the outputs to benefit a greater part of the community. CNCD stand in Gender

CNCD shares the global consensus on the meaning of gender. It defines gender as the economic, social, political and cultural attributes and opportunities associated with being male or female. CNCD acknowledges that in many societies’ men and women differ in the activities they undertake, access to use and control resources, and their participation in decision making. Men in most cases have been more advantaged in this respect at the detriment of women, thus evolving the question of the place of the women. To ensure therefore that men and women alike are implicated in the development processes, CNCD has incorporated a gender page.  By so doing, CNCD is committed to reinforcing issues of gender parity within the organization and in its areas of interests. It also contributes to environmental hygiene and sanitation by promoting environmental stewardship.
